BBC 50:50 Event 2019

The BBC 50:50 Project is is the biggest collective action on increasing women’s representation in BBC content that there’s ever been.

In 2019, Northern Power Women partnered with the project to bring 50 women to the BBC in Media City to partake in an evening of networking, talks and the chance to have a taste of presenting on TV and being on the radio.

The event was opened by the wonderful Nina Goswami, BBC Creative Diversity Lead- Nina spoke so passionately about the project and her hopes and actions for now and for the future.

Whilst in groups, we took part in being interviewed on the BBC sofa by Annabel Tiffin from Granada Reports. We then moved on to Radio 5 Live where we learnt all about how the radio shows are put together. Finally we moved to BBC Sport where we got the chance to present a segment in front of the camera and see the process of bringing a programme to TV.

It was an absolutely fantastic event and although there is still a lot to do with regard to women’s representation,  it was very uplifting and positive to hear about how the BBC were making positive changes within the organisation for women in all aspects of its operations.
